Dnav.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is dnav.com?
Developers present dnav.com as an improved Internet search engine that supposedly generates better search results.
These claims often trick users into believing that dnav.com is legitimate and useful, however, developers promote this site via rogue software downloaders/installers designed to hijack Internet browsers and change various settings without users' consent. In addition, dnav.com gathers information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
Research shows that download/installation set-ups target Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. After assigning the new tab URL/homepage/default search engine options to dnav.com, set-ups append this URL to the target of each browser shortcut.
Therefore, users are automatically redirected to dnav.com when opening a browser, new browser tab, or simply attempting to search via the URL bar. Unwanted redirects diminish the Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, users are unable to revert these changes, since set-ups stealthily install several "helper objects" (third party applications and/or browser plug-ins) that automatically reassign settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible.
Web browsing activity is continually tracked - dnav.com and helper objects continually record information relating to users' web browsing activity. This collected data might contain private details and is shared by developers with cooperating third parties (who misuse private information to generate revenue).
Thus, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you encounter unwanted redirects to dnav.com, uninstall all suspicious apps/browser plug-ins (helper objects) and never visit this site again.
There are dozens of websites similar to dnav.com including Hihikal.ru, sstartbest.ru, and easyopenweb.com - these are just some examples from many. Note that these websites appear different, however, they have identical behavior. The only purpose of fake search engines is to generate revenue for the developers.
Therefore, websites such as dnav.com provide no significant value for regular users. They cause unwanted redirects and continually record various user/system data. Some even generate results leading to malicious websites. Therefore, never use a fake search engine - it is risky and can lead to various computer infections.
How did dnav.com install on my computer?
As mentioned above, dnav.com is promoted using rogue download/installation set-ups. This deceptive marketing method is called "bundling".
Developers conceal all information regarding modification of browser settings within the "Custom/Advanced" options of the download or installation processes, since they know that many users lack caution, rush these processes, and skip most steps. This inadvertently grants set-ups permission to modify various browser options.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Firstly, potentially unwanted programs are distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, never rush the download or installation processes.
Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step. Secondly, decline offers to download/install additional apps and cancel those already included. Bundled programs are often rogue and, thus, should never be installed.
