Mytrustsearch.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is mytrustsearch.com?
Identical to hightsearch.com, searchopa.com, searchglobo.com, and a number of other bogus sites, mytrustsearch.com is a fake Internet search engine claiming to generate the most relevant search results. These claims often trick users into believing that mytrustsearch.com is a legitimate website.
In fact, mytrustsearch.com records various information relating to Internet browsing activity. In addition, developers promote this site via rogue software "installers" that stealthily modify Internet browser settings.
Deceptive installers assign the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox default search engine, new tab URL, and homepage browser options to mytrustsearch.com. These set-ups also append the target of each browser shortcut with the same URL.
Thus, when attempting to search the Internet or simply open a browser/new browsing tab, users are automatically redirected to mytrustsearch.com, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience. Selected software is delivered with several "helper objects" (third party apps and/or browser extensions) that prevent users from rolling back these changes.
Helper objects automatically reassign the aforementioned settings when attempts are made to change them. Thus, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible. Furthermore, mytrustsearch.com and helper objects record various information relating to users' web browsing activity.
Collected data types include (but are not limited to) IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, and search queries. This information may seem insignificant, however, it often contains personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
This private information is often misused and can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you continually encounter unwanted browser redirects to mytrustsearch.com, immediately uninstall all suspicious apps/browser add-ons and never visit this fake Internet search engine again.
mytrustsearch.com is identical to the aforementioned websites, and very similar to hundreds of other fake Internet search engines. All claim to enhance the web browsing experience.
Websites such as mytrustsearch.com, istream.link, videodownloadtabsearch.com, etc. give the impression of legitimate software, however, research shows that they are designed only to generate revenue for the developers (by causing unwanted browser redirects and collecting private data).
These sites are useless for regular users. Note that some fake search engines generate results leading to malicious websites and, thus, using a fake Internet search engine to search the web can result in high-risk adware or malware infections.
How did mytrustsearch.com install on my computer?
This fake Internet search engine is distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Developers hide details regarding modification of browser settings within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of the download/installation processes. Unsuspecting users often skip this section, thereby inadvertently granting set-ups permission to modify various settings. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and put their privacy at risk.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be cautious during the download/installation processes. Select the "Custom/Advanced" settings, closely observe each step, and decline all offers to download/install additional apps. Furthermore, never allow set-ups to modify settings that are not related to the installation.
