TrendsTab Browser Hijacker

What is TrendsTab?
TrendsTab is a bogus application claiming to provide all the latest news available on the Internet - "Let TrendsTab bring the news to you! Save time by getting the hottest trending topics all in one place, without having to visit multiple websites!" On initial inspection, this application may seem legitimate and useful, however, TrendsTab is categorized as a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
After stealth system infiltration, TrendsTab hijacks web browsers and modifies their settings. In addition, this PUP continually gathers various information relating to Internet browsing activity.
TrendsTab modifies the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browser default search engine, new tab URL, and homepage options by assigning them to search.trendstab.com. Furthermore, this application automatically reassigns these settings to search.trendstab.com when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, users are unable to return browsers to their previous states. When opening a new browser tab or simply attempting to search the Internet, users are automatically redirected to search.trendstab.com, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience.
Furthermore, TrendsTab gathers IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, operating system/browser types, websites visited, search queries entered into search engines, pages viewed, and other similar data. This collected information might contain personally identifiable details, which developers of TrendsTab share with third parties.
It is highly probable that private details will be misused to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall TrendsTab browser hijacker immediately.
There are hundreds of potentially unwanted programs similar to TrendsTab. Research shows that all browser hijackers claim to enhance the web browsing experience in certain ways, however, these claims are merely attempts to trick users to install - virtually none provide users with any significant value.
Browser-hijacking applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than enabling any of the functionality promised, apps such as TrendsTab simply cause unwanted browser redirects, track personally identifiable information, and display intrusive online advertisements.
How did TrendsTab install on my computer?
This PUP has an official download website, however, it is also distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of potentially unwanted programs with regular [mostly legitimate] software) and, thus, users often install this application inadvertently.
Developers know that many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software and intentionally hide PUPs within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings of these procedures. By skipping this section, users commonly install PUPs inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of potentially unwanted programs can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software. Select the 'Custom/Advanced' settings and closely analyze each step. Secondly, opt-out of all additionally-included programs and never accept any offers to download or install them.
