Smart Address Bar Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Smart Address Bar?
Smart Address Bar is a browser add-on created by Think Tank Labs LLC and promises to enhance Internet users' browsing experience by adding search engine functionality to the browser address bar. Computer users who install this browser extension see suggestions when they begin typing text into the address bar.
This browser plug-in is not technically a virus and not related to malware infections, however, many computer users report that it was installed on their Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox) without their consent.
Moreover, many users feel annoyed by redirects to search.smartaddressbar.com, which occur each time users click on the suggested links within the browser address bar.
Unwilling installation of Smart Address Bar is often a consequence of not paying close enough attention to the installation steps of free software downloaded from the Internet. This browser add-on is promoted using a software distribution method called 'bundling' and commonly installs together with freeware.
Computer users who do wish to install additional software or browser add-ons, should inspect each freeware installation step, choosing the 'Custom Installation', rather than 'Typical' option, and opting-out of installation of any additional programs.
The Smart Address Bar add-on is a potentially unwanted program (PUP), and similar to Smart Suggestor. We recommend that you remove it from your Internet browser/s.
Note that redirects to search.smartaddressbar.com are mainly applied in order to monetize incoming web traffic (generating revenue from Internet users who click on sponsored search results). To eliminate Smart Address Bar from Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox, please use the removal guide provided.
