Yandex Toolbar
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Yandex?
The Yandex toolbar browser extension is developed by a reputable Russian search engine provider that enjoys a market share of greater than 60% within the country. The toolbar enhances Internet users' browsing experience by displaying quick links to weather forecasts, email accounts, etc.
This extension also displays notifications when users receive emails, social network notifications, etc.
Whilst this functionality is useful to some, many computer users report that this toolbar was installed without their consent and they experience unwanted redirects to yandex.com (.ru) This situation may occur if the Yandex toolbar was bundled with free software downloaded from the Internet.
To avoid unwanted toolbar installation such as this, Internet users should express caution when installing freeware - software developers often bundle their free products with browser toolbars and add-ons in order to monetize their products.
Furthermore, the Yandex toolbar does not provide a complete uninstaller, thus leaving the homepage and default search engine redirected to Yandex (even after uninstalling the toolbar from the 'add/remove programs' section).
The Yandex toolbar is not related to malware or virus infections, and is a legitimate browser extension, however, if you feel that it was installed on your system without your consent, use the removal guide provided to eliminate this browser add-on.
Note that, while there is an uninstallation procedure for Internet Explorer, some manual steps needs to be taken in order change your homepage and default search engine to your preferred domain.
There is no uninstallation procedure for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, thus users of these Internet browsers must follow the removal steps, which describe how to eliminate this toolbar from the browser extensions section.
