Converter King is a potentially unwanted application (PUA), a browser hijacker that supposedly operates as an online file converter. In fact, it promotes a fake search engine (search.converterkingtab.com) by changing browser settings and recording browsing data. In most cases, people download and install browser hijackers and other PUAs inadvertently.

Generally, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by assigning their addresses to the default search engine, homepage, and new tab settings. Converter King sets them to search.converterkingtab.com.

Therefore, people who have Converter King installed on their browsers and operating systems are forced to visit search.converterkingtab.com when they open a new browser window, new tab or enter search queries into the URL bar.

Note that search.converterkingtab.com is classed as a fake search engine since it does not generate unique results - it simply provides results generated by Yahoo. Therefore, people who use search.converterkingtab.com are redirected to search.yahoo.com.

In most cases, the only way to remove an unwanted address (in this case, search.converterkingtab.com) that was appointed by the browser hijacker settings is to uninstall the PUA. There are many browser hijackers online. Some other examples are Online Safety by Safely, Power Search, Auto Purge and My Login Hub.

Generally, apps of this type are advertised useful and legitimate, however, their primary task is to change browser settings and gather information. PUAs deliver no real value or any useful features - they do not operate as advertised. People who have them installed on their systems, and use them, risk various problems.

How did Converter King install on my computer?

In most cases, people download and/or install PUAs when they click deceptive ads or download/install other software with PUAs included in the set-ups as additional offers. Unwanted downloads/installations occur when users click deceptive that can execute scripts designed to downloadinstall unwanted apps.

In other cases, PUAs are downloaded/installed when they are included into various download/installation set-ups.

Typically, information about these additionally-included apps can be found in "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings. Many people leave these settings unchanged, thereby  giving various PUAs permissions to be downloaded and/or installed through the set-ups of regular programs.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Download software only from official pages and through direct links. Internet Explorer:

• Click the Gear button on the right upper corner of the IE window
• Select "Internet options"
• Select the "Privacy" tab and click "Settings" under "Pop-up Blocker" section

Converter King browser hijacker removal:

Windows 11 users:

Right-click on the Start icon, select Apps and Features. In the opened window search for the application you want to uninstall, after locating it, click on the three vertical dots and select Uninstall.

Windows 10 users:

Change your default search engine:

To change your default search engine in Google Chrome: Click the Chrome menu icon  (at the top right corner of Google Chrome), select "Settings", in the "Search engine" section, click "Manage search engines...", in the opened list look for "search.converterkingtab.com", when located click the three vertical dots near this URL and select "Remove from list".

Optional method:

If you continue to have problems with removal of the search.converterkingtab.com redirect, reset your Google Chrome browser settings. Click the Chrome menu icon  (at the top right corner of Google Chrome) and select Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen. Click the Advanced… link.

Change your default search engine:

In the URL address bar, type about:config and press Enter.
Click "I'll be careful, I promise!".
In the search filter at the top, type: "extensionControlled"
Set both results to "false" by either double-clicking each entry or clicking the button.

Optional method:

Computer users who have problems with search.converterkingtab.com redirect removal can reset their Mozilla Firefox settings.

Open Mozilla Firefox, at the top right corner of the main window, click the Firefox menu, in the opened menu, click Help.

Remove malicious extensions from Microsoft Edge:

Click the Edge menu icon  (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge), select "Extensions". Locate any recently-installed suspicious browser add-ons, and remove them.

Change your homepage and new tab settings:

Click the Edge menu icon  (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge), select "Settings". In the "On startup" section look for the name of the browser hijacker and click "Disable".

Change your default Internet search engine:

To change your default search engine in Microsoft Edge: Click the Edge menu icon  (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge), select "Privacy and services", scroll to bottom of the page and select "Address bar". In the "Search engines used in address bar" section look for the name of the unwanted Internet search engine, when located click the "Disable" button near it. Optional method:

If you continue to have problems with removal of the search.converterkingtab.com redirect, reset your Microsoft Edge browser settings. Click the Edge menu icon  (at the top right corner of Microsoft Edge) and select Settings.
